Sikkim

Sikkim is a small state located in the northeast region of India, with an area of 7096 sq km, which is only 0.2% of India's total area. It is strategically located with Nepal to its west, Bhutan and the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council of West Bengal to its south.

Sikkim has become the eighth member of the Northeastern Council of States, which was established to support development of the northeast region of India. This demonstrates Sikkim's growing importance in the area's development and strategic planning. Languages spoken there are Nepali, Bhutia,

Lepcha, Limboo, Magar, Rai, Hindi, and English. Sikkim is home to multiple snow-covered mountain peaks, including Kanchenjunga, which is the third highest peak in the world. As a result, the state attracts a significant number of tourists from all around the world who come to see these peaks.

Agriculture is vital to the progress of Sikkim as more than 64% of the population depends on it for their livelihoods. The Sikkim AGRISNET is an online resource for agricultural information that promotes the use of scientific farming practices and helps the agricultural industry put research into action. Tourism in Sikkim has emerged as the new profession of the Sikkimese people with its vast natural potential. Promotion of village tourism, homestay, cultural tourism, trekking tourism, ecotourism, wellness tourism, flori-tourism and adventure tourism has given a fillip to the tourism trade in the state where a large number of people are engaged under different employment opportunities. Sikkim has been featured and ranked 17th in the New York Times “52 best places to go in 2017.

The state of Sikkim signed the Letter of Undertaking (LoU) with the Ministry of MSME, Government of India on 13th September 2022. It submitted its Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) on 23rd June 2023 and RPC approved projects worth Rs. 74.74 Cr for Sikkim.
