The State of Nagaland was formally inaugurated on December 1st, 1963, as the 16th State of the Indian Union. It is surrounded by Assam in the West, Myanmar (Burma) on the east, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam on the North and Manipur in the South. It has an area of 16,579 square km and has a population of 19.78 lakhs (2022 Census).
Agriculture is the mainstay of Nagaland as about 70% of the population of Nagaland is engaged in farming.
Other major sectors include livestock, tourism etc. The industrial landscape has presence of small, medium-sized and large industries – Bamboo products, sugar mills, oil factories, textiles, handlooms and handicrafts etc.
Nagaland signed the Letter of Undertaking (LoU) with the Ministry of MSME, Government of India on 10th February 2023. It submitted its Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) on 1st February 2024 and RPC approved projects worth Rs. 52.02 Cr for Nagaland. The Hon’ble the Chief Minister launched the RAMP programme on 27th August 2024 in the event attended by MSMEs, Industry associations, media etc.
The key projects approved are as follows:
- Capacity building of MSMEs on entrepreneurship, innovation, quality, supply chain management, technology adoption, export readiness, sustainability practices, etc
- Udyam Registration drive for formalization of existing unorganized MSMEs
- Make in Nagaland: support centre, Workshops, Capacity building of MSME
- Providing digital devices for Field level offices
- Upgrading IT infra in District Industries Centres (DICs) and NIDC
- Web Portal for Department/NIDC/MSMEs for monitoring, notifications and ease of access to the central and state schemes
- Financial support to MSMEs for energy audits and capital subsidy of 20% for improving energy efficiency
- Workshops on creating awareness of ZED and LEAN Scheme, FSSAI Basic license (interest subvention), Packaging, Branding and Marketing
- Vendor development program for 400 MSMEs and Buyers and suppliers meet including reverse buyer supplier meet
- Exporter State Summit for MSMEs, traders etc
- Technology Clinics for MSMEs in thrust areas like agro based & food processing, mineral based, textiles, electronics &IT, bamboo based, waste management, tourism, hospitality, health, power and renewable energy
- Capacity building training for Inspector of Industries officers by IIFT/IIE
- Training for Udyami Saathis /VLEs to assist in enhancing firm capability (CGTMSE, product designers, legal experts, green energy, financial consultants etc)
- Training of DIC officials on entrepreneurship development, managerial skills, basic computer proficiency skills li
- Setting up of Banker Facilitation Cell, to aid GM-DICs and financial institutions in preparing and evaluating DPRs for schemes like PMEGP, PMFME and CGTMSE
