Goa

Goa was formally recognized as a state on May 30th, 1987. It is located on the western coast of India, bordered by Maharashtra to the north, Karnataka to the east and south, and the Arabian Sea to the west. With an area of 3,702 square km, Goa has a population of about 17.2 lakhs (2022 Census).

The MSME landscape in Goa is diverse, with significant contributions from sectors such as tourism, food processing, handicrafts, and chemicals. Tourism is the backbone of Goa’s economy, attracting visitors from across the globe for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and rich Portuguese heritage. Agriculture, particularly rice, cashews, and coconuts, also plays a significant role in the state's economy

Goa signed the Letter of Undertaking (LoU) with the Ministry of MSME, Government of India on 15th September 2022. It submitted its Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) on 3rd January 2024 and RPC approved projects worth Rs. 61.57 Cr for Assam.

The key projects approved are as follows:

  • Centralized Digital Platform: Development of a unified, user-friendly digital platform to streamline processes, provide essential resources, and improve access to government services for MSMEs in Goa.
  • Establishment of BFCs: Setting up Business Facilitation Centres across Goa to assist MSMEs in navigating business processes, including training for BFC staff to ensure better service delivery and operational support.
  • Capacity Building & Trainings- Skill Development Trainings, Technical Trainings, Tourism Trainings, Business Management Trainings:
    • Champion MSMEs in the State- Empanelling a dedicated agency to identify high-potential MSMEs and provide them with the necessary resources and support for growth, scalability, and business development.
    • Gender Inclusion and Greening Initiatives for MSMEs- Establishment of a dedicated support system to help women entrepreneurs in Goa with training, funding, and networking opportunities, Training and Capacity Development by WEFC ,Subsidy for Water and Energy Audits, Development of a Green Index and Green Credit Model to incentivize MSMEs to adopt environmental sustainability measures.
